Under Counter TV

This website is designed to have the information you need to find the best possible under counter TV, or under cabinet TV for your individual needs.

If you have wanted an under counter TV for your kitchen, the technology available now gives you great options to choose from.  Gone are the days when even the smallest of TVs took up huge space, and weighed more than what would practically be supported by any type of mount.  Most under-cabinet TVs that are offered to day are LCD, which is both thin and light-weight.

When purchasing an under-counter TV, there are several factors you should consider.  The first is the need for a DVD player.  Many of the models come with DVD players built in.  While this may be of limited use in the kitchen, other applications, such as in an RV, boat, or garage, may find this very convenient.  Otherwise you have to find a place to store your DVD player, and have ugly wires running to a standalone screen.  The price difference is not significant between a screen only, and the units with a DVD player...usually less than $50 difference, so we recommend getting a unit with a built-in DVD player.

Other options with the built-in players include having an AM/FM radio.  This may not be as necessary, depending on the application, but most units include it as standard.

The second consideration when buying an under counter TV is the screen size.  The sizes range from around 7 inches to over 10 inches for most units, with some models even bigger.  Again, the price consideration is negligible, with some of the largest units only costing about $20 more than the smaller screen units.  Keep in mind the use for the TV.  If you are trying to follow along with your favorite cooking show, seeing exactly what the chef is doing on a 7" screen while you are across the kitchen at the stove might not work well for you.  Get the biggest screen that will fit your budget...you won't regret it.

Before buying, consider where your input will come from.  If you are relying on the tuner included with the television, depending on the layout of your house you may have trouble.  Most of the built-in tuners are very strong, but be aware that you may need to buy an after-market tuner/antenna that boosts the incoming signal.  Also remember that if you are relying on cable/satellite, you will need to run the connection cables to the TV.

All of the units feature the ability for the screen to swivel, however some units actually allow you to "fold up" the television under the cabinet.  This is especially useful when your counter-space is limited.  For example, if you are baking cookies, your mixer might not fit under the cabinet with a Television sticking down.

One of the biggest complaints about under cabinet TVs is their sound.  Be sure to look for a unit with strong speakers, or even extra speakers that can be wired from the unit and placed around the area.  Another frequent complaint is the difficulty in installing the unit.  Because of the differences in cabinets, many units require a bit of time to get the alignment just right.

Regardless of where you plan on using your under counter TV, you can find one that will meet your needs for a reasonable price at almost any of the major retailers.
